What is Psychedelic Integration Therapy?

As we are entering what many are calling “the psychedelic renaissance,” we are gaining access and knowledge to a new healing outlet for mental health. More and more people are using psychedelics within a therapeutic context. Integration therapy is a type of therapy that helps individuals make meaning out of their psychedelic experience, It is important to note that integration therapy is not about promoting or administering psychedelics. Instead, it focuses on therapeutic support after the psychedelic experience to enhance therapeutic potential and help individuals integrate the experience into their ongoing personal growth journey.

IFS Psychedelic Integration Therapy

What is IFS?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic modality by Richard Schwartz. IFS is a somatic and experiential approach that promotes a deeper understanding of our inner world. IFS pairs well with psychedelic integration as psychedelics can help in accessing parts that may be difficult to access in an non-altered state.

How is IFS used in Psychedelic Integration Therapy

An IFS approach to psychedelic integration gives an individual a place to process and make meaning after experiencing an altered state. IFS uses the concept of “parts.” Often protector or “manager” parts make it difficult to reach “exiles,” or more vulnerable and wounded parts. When engaging in the psychedelic process you may come into contact with parts that are new and unfamiliar.
